JACKSON, MS (October 15, 2012) – National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is turning 27 this month and the associates at River Oaks Healthcare are celebrating this anniversary in a special way – by participating in the Pink Glove Dance video contest.
The original Pink Glove Dance video, sponsored by Medline, is a YouTube sensation with more than 13 million views to date and has inspired hundreds of pink glove dance videos from around the world. In an effort to continue building awareness, this year Medline is again sponsoring the national competition for the best pink glove dance video. River Oaks Healthcare has chosen to participate as a network of its five Jackson hospitals-Central Mississippi Medical Center, Crossgates River Oaks Hospital, Madison River Oaks Hospital, River Oaks Hospital and Woman’s Hospital.
The video that receives the most votes wins the ultimate prize- $10,000- given in the organization’s name, to a breast cancer charity. River Oaks Healthcare has chosen the American Cancer Society’s Look Good Feel Better program, an esteem-boosting program for female cancer patients, as its charity. To vote for our organization in the Pink Glove Dance competition, visit www.pinkglovedance.com and select River Oaks Healthcare. Voting ends Friday, Nov. 2.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Over 2.6 million breast cancer survivors are living in the U.S. today. Breast cancer has many risk factors, including age, genetics, obesity and family history. Women who maintain healthy lifestyles and have regular screenings may be less likely to get breast cancer.
