We greatly appreciate the outpouring of support for Madison River Oaks – from physicians, nurses, patients and community leaders all throughout Madison County and beyond.
From many, we are hearing excitement about the convenience and peace of mind that comes with having a new hospital close to home. Others see Madison River Oaks as a benefit to our local economy – creating more than 230 jobs and generating $1 million in property taxes annually.
The River Oaks family of hospitals is honored to be building the future of healthcare for Madison County. Your new hospital will offer a full range of services, including a 24/7 emergency room, surgical care, women’s services, obstetrics, urology and more. Madison River Oaks is centrally located just off I-55 at Nissan Parkway and will open in 2011.
While we’ve been making great progress on our hospital, we have also been distracted by St. Dominic’s proposal to build a second hospital in the City of Madison. In February, during a hearing before the State Department of Health, hundreds of employees, physicians and community members showed their support for Madison River Oaks and voiced their concern that the proposed hospital will critically impact Madison River Oaks. We greatly appreciate this support and your efforts paid off.
On August 5, State Hearing Officer, Judge Cassandra B. Walter, who heard more than 9 days of testimony in February, made a recommendation to the State Health Officer to deny St. Dominic’s request. And, on August 26, the Mississippi State Health Officer, Dr. Mary Currier concurred with this recommendation – hopefully putting this distraction behind us.
Looking to the future, we plan to focus our attention solely on making Madison River Oaks, a hospital that Madison County families will be proud of. We will keep you updated as we progress through the construction of your new hospital.
In the meantime, we continue to proudly serve Madison County families both at Madison County Medical Center in Canton and at our River Oaks hospitals in Flowood and Brandon.
Thank you for your support of Madison River Oaks.
Sincerely,
Davis Richards
